Bear with me for this quick history lesson. I was this many years old when I found out the four presidents on Mount Rushmore were chosen to represent the nation’s birth, growth, development, and preservation. The memorial is quite a feat, in part because of its physical size, but also because it’s a man-made piece of art carved from solid granite.
By contrast, the Four Peaks in Phoenix, Arizona are natural rock formations along the Mazatzal mountain range. Each of the four peaks soars 7,500ft above sea level; the tallest—called Brown’s Peak—reaches toward the sky at 7,659ft. The range’s titanic proportions create vastly different conditions on either side. On the east, you’ll find brush, or pine-covered earth, with vertical-walled canyons throughout. On the west, you’ll see steep, brush-covered foothills until you eventually run into the Verde River and the searing hot Sonoran Desert.
BY ANY OTHER NAME
That was a long way to say that’s where DragonFire Racing—a manufacturer of high-quality side-by-side and UTV parts and accessories—got the inspiration for its latest tire: the 4Peak. As its name suggests, racing is the center of DragonFire’s world. Its products are dedicated to meeting the demands of customers who ride dunes, trails, and tracks alike.
As you can tell, DragonFire’s literal naming convention has extended to this tire, but for good reason. The 4Peak tire was designed to be a versatile explorer that will get your SxS or UTV through terrain you’d likely encounter on this mountain range (i.e., loose rocks, dirt, and light mud). As a result, this tire is suited to everything from sport UTV excursions in the backwoods near you to good old-fashioned workhorse utility.
ENTER SANDMAN
Before 4Peak, DragonFire’s tire program was admittedly more well-known for sand. Its KOPA Sand Paddle (520635) tires were instantly recognizable and were expertly engineered to maximize flotation, spin, and traction in sandy terrain. But DragonFire was dead set on expanding its reach. The 4Peak intermediate/medium compound looks more conventional than its sand-focused sibling, but its features are purposeful. Its 24/32 tread blocks extend to the tire’s shoulder to improve puncture resistance and traction. The stepped design helps the tire self-clean while adding tread block stiffness. For riders curious about the 4Peak’s load-bearing capabilities, this tire is a standard 8-ply radial (“D” load range rating).
WHAT YOU NEED
At launch, the 4Peak tire comes in four sizes: a 32×10-15, 30×10-15, 33×10-15, and 30×10-14. Like the QuadBoss QBT889 tire that we introduced you to, the 30×10 in either wheel diameter will likely be the best choice as a factory replacement tire for stock or lightly modified SxS and UTV applications. The 32 is still a very popular choice, though you might run into clearance or rubbing issues if you don’t have the suspension mods to support the extra height.
Ultimately, we’re excited to see DragonFire expand its tire lineup. The company has gained a huge following for its doors, race harnesses, and sand tires, and this 4Peak compound should help it make a lot more riders aware of the brand’s quality, capability, and reputation.
