- Since 1982, TwinPower has been designing and producing quality parts and accessories for the American V-Twin enthusiast.
- TwinPower’s first claim to fame was creating reasonably priced replacement parts for die-hard Harley-Davidson fans to keep these bikes on the road and riders enjoying the hobby.
- Since then, TwinPower’s product line has gradually expanded to include a popular lineup of lubricants designed specifically for American V-Twin engines.
- Every component and lubricant that TwinPower engineers have been (and currently still is) proudly made in the USA.
Ideas start when you recognize a need. Innovation starts once you do something to address it. It’s said that “the 1970s were the beginning of today’s America” because of all the ideas that eventually turned into important innovations: the floppy disk, the first digital camera, the MRI machine, and the Sony Walkman just to name a few. For TwinPower, the 1970s were a budding decade that led to its official founding in 1982. The need? To provide loyal Harley-Davidson riders with replacement parts that were only otherwise available through H-D. The innovation? Make those parts reasonably priced, proudly made in the USA, and accessible to Harley-Davidson riders around the country.
IMMEDIATE SUCCESS
The innovation part was easier said than done, but TwinPower found a way to make it happen; TwinPower’s product line quickly became synonymous with quality and performance at a fair price. This was important because Harley-Davidson riders—especially in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s—were a tight-knit group, but that loyalty came with a price. “They [Harley-Davidson riders] were loyal to the brand but at times found they couldn’t always afford the parts for their motorcycles,” Bob Kay, TwinPower’s founder said. Without this effort, the enthusiasm for Harley-Davidson and other American V-Twin brands may not be as strong as it is today. TwinPower made it possible to keep more of these bikes on the road and riders enjoying them as intended with their friends and family. What TwinPower did for generations of the motorcycle community equates to immense impact.
BEYOND PARTS
Despite what TwinPower had already achieved, it wasn’t finished. Soon, TwinPower released a line of lubricants specifically engineered to meet the rigorous demands of Harley-Davidson and other V-Twin motorcycles. Like the components, every lubricant—engine oils, fork oils, chain case lube, transmission oils—is manufactured, blended, tested, and bottled in the USA from 100% US-sourced components. “Our commitment to quality means our oils are tested to perform in the most demanding conditions,” said James Simonelli, Brand Manager of TwinPower. “We’ve gone the extra mile to ensure our products exceed the expectations of motorcycle riders.”
Because of that, TwinPower multi-grade, straight-weight, and fully synthetic oils are not just another repackaged; each has been specifically developed by application to suit very specific needs and engine types. For example, TwinPower’s V-Twin oil uses a different base stock to stand up to extreme heat, pressure, and heat cycle resistance.
No doubt, this specialty approach helped revise TwinPower’s popular additive lineup too. Anti-friction, extreme pressure, and anti-shear additives join a list of viscosity improvers, dispersants, and inhibitors to control combustion by-products. Each oil and lubricant also goes through hours of laboratory testing to validate the finished product and make sure it performs better than the competition.
WORK ONGOING
It seems like every area of progress that TwinPower makes spurs them toward more breakthroughs. Nano Gel Technology batteries and scalloped floating rotors joined the ever-growing TwinPower catalog a few years back. In total, TwinPower’s continued ideas and innovations ensure it stays at the forefront of the American V-Twin segment. The team claims it won’t offer a TwinPower product to its customers unless they would put it on their own. And I believe them. Because of that, and TwinPower’s commitment to quality and honest-to-goodness pricing, it’s never felt this satisfying to maintain a bike.
