World Challenge America is the home for GT3 racing in America, known previously as the Pirelli World Challenge. Each event has two 90-minute races and four classes: Pro, Pro-Am, Silver, and Am. For 2019, Acura, Bentley, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes-AMG, and Porsche all have entries in the series.
This year, the series schedule includes the Circuit of the Americas, Virginia International Raceway, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Sonoma Raceway, Watkins Glen International, Road America, and Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Photographer Jason Long recently headed to the Blancpain GT World Challenge America race at Watkins Glen and graciously offered to share his photos with us for you to enjoy. Jason is actually the IT Manager here at the office and has recently developed a serious love for photography. It stems from his childhood, when he recalls his father—who was a professional wedding and portrait photographer—taking him to Rocky Mountain Raceway in Utah to see the nitro cars. Back in 2014, he was looking for a fun outing for a vacation with his kids and somehow ended up at Watkins Glen; ever since it’s become a yearly tradition. He started out with a point-and-shoot camera, then progressed to a Canon T5, and earlier this year purchased both a Canon 7D Mark II and 5D Mark II, along with a couple of lenses to improve his arsenal.
Jason’s always popping over to my desk to talk about his most recent shoot, camera settings for particular situations, and which gear to buy next. He’s made a few shrewd purchases of gear over the last several months and spent a lot of time honing his skills. We think he’s on the right path for sure, and we’re happy to present to you the World Challenge America’s Watkins Glen event, through his camera lens. Enjoy!
