Grid Icons: Golden Era Highlights Modified 90s and 00s Standouts From JDM and Euro Marques
- Grid Icons is Pit+Paddock’s car show concept that spotlights performance-themed builds from popular marques in unique venues across the United States.
- “Golden Era” is our first mixed marque show highlighting modified JDM and Euro cars from the 90s and 00s.
- Our Grid Icons: Golden Era car show at Griot’s Garage HQ is set for Saturday, September 14, 2024, and tickets are now available on our Ticketspice page.
All the modified cars you wanted as a kid in a single car show. That was the inspiration behind Pit+Paddock’s latest Grid Icons event, Golden Era—our JDM and Euro greatest hits album from the 90s and 00s. After throwing five successful shows that were singularly focused, “Golden Era” is our first mixed marque show. In part, the pivot helps us keep things fresh, but it’s also an excuse to bring another gathering to the PNW. Indeed, after our East Coast Porsche event, we’ve been moving westward; first to Detroit for a timely Ford Mustang celebration, and now to Tacoma, Washington for a JDM vs Euro face-off.
NO STRANGER
It’s not the first time we’ve been out here. We hosted back-to-back Performance Car Invitationals with Formula DRIFT in 2022 and 2023 and have been hunting for a creative way to make Washington a landing space for Grid Icons. From what we’ve already seen, the area is ripe with incredible builds that fit the criteria well, and one of our own, Sam Du, is from Seattle originally. In that sense, it really does feel like coming to the PNW is a home away from home.
IN THE GARAGE
Of course, one of the crucial elements that brought us here (other than the car community), was the event space: the Griot’s Garage Store and Events Center. The venue is a destination, and as such, it hosts some of the most well-attended shows for locals including Radwood, M-Day, Caffeine and Gasoline, and even a Kimoji-style car club meet. The building was originally a Coca-Cola bottling and distribution warehouse in the 1950s, which means it already had ample square footage to repurpose for Griot’s needs. The space hosts the company’s flagship retail store, a car care school (where you can actually try out any Griot’s Garage product), a 12-car auto museum, an R&D garage, a 1950s-style diner, and a private workshop for restoration projects. In other words, there will be a lot to check out in addition to our curated car show.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Our Ticketspice page is officially open and, thanks to Griot’s Garage and the support of our sponsors, admission to Grid Icons: Golden Era is FREE. The only thing you’ll need to decide is whether or not you want to pre-order any of the merch we’ll have on hand, including a bespoke event t-shirt and a one-of-a-kind Leen Customs pin.
Thank you to Radium Engineering, Fluidampr, Griot’s Garage, Hawk Performance, and H&R for helping make this Grid Icons chapter a possibility. We’re all looking forward to seeing you in Tacoma in a few weeks!
