Every product begins with an idea. Every great product starts with a passionate observation of how that idea could improve the lives of its users. The latter describes MOMO—a heritage Italian manufacturer of motorsport equipment that has become synonymous with racing success. Its founder, Italian race car driver Gianpiero Moretti, created MOMO in 1964 after commissioning a local craftsman to produce a custom steering wheel for his race car. There was only one requirement: provide more grip compared to the traditional steering wheels of the era. The exercise proved fruitful. Drivers from other teams noticed Moretti’s new steering wheel, which quickly gained fame in the racing community. In the same year, a MOMO-equipped Ferrari Formula 1 car won the world title. What an ascent.

That momentum kept building from there. By the 1970s, MOMO expanded into different product lines for road cars—like wheels and steering wheels—eventually earning it the privilege to supply OEM products to Ferrari. By the end of the 1980s, MOMO supplier list grew dramatically to include the likes of Aston Martin, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Porsche, and many more. Everyone wanted a piece of MOMO and deservedly so; it was considered top-tier equipment with a real racing pedigree.

60 YEARS

2024 is a pivotal year for the Milan-based company. Today, MOMO is as plugged into motorsport as ever, helping honor its heritage, enriching the grassroots racing community, and supporting passionate road car enthusiasts all at the same time. As part of that commitment, the company sells a wide range of products for the automotive aftermarket and motorsport industry in over 60 countries. That number is serendipitous. 2024 is also MOMO’s 60th anniversary, which prompted its worldwide team to create a limited edition collection to pay proper homage to its numerous achievements.

THE COLLECTION

This 60th Anniversary collection is comprised of three, exclusive items: a steering wheel, racing gloves, and a motorsport tow strap. The trio—which is limited to 100 units of each item—has been designed with both style and functionality in mind.

The Mod.07 Anniversario steering wheel is a 350mm, semi-deep corn design that evokes the Italian racing spirit throughout. Crafted from premium black leather and stitched with the colors of the native flag, each of the limited 100 units features a luxurious Alcantara top insert and an exclusive Anniversario horn button. I love that the 12 o’clock stripe and the brushed black anodized spokes are subtle. The treatment allows the gold Anniversario adornments to shine prominently and they gleam from every angle.

The Corsa Pro Anniversario racing gloves are the perfect complement to the steering wheel. As FIA-approved fittings, they offer both style and safety to the driver. Appropriately, the gloves feature nods to the Italian flag—with pops of green, white, and red between the digits—and the familiar 60-year designs on both the front and back wrist and dorsal side for maximum visibility.

Of course, the collection needed something that could be seen from the outside of the car, too. The Tow Strap Anniversario was the result, combining true track functionality with the durability you’d expect from a real racing brand. Indeed, it was designed to be a legitimate, high-performance towing solution, and was tested to withstand up to 10,000 lbs of load. Its dependability is only matched by its looks; the loop end of the tow strap features a prominent and fade-resistant 60th Anniversary rubber logo that I think looks fantastic.
