2015 Mustang Week – Part 1 of 2

There are a few things every Mustang owner loves: lots of horsepower, sunshine (on their left arm), and meeting other enthusiasts. For one week in July, over the past 14 years, they take over the golf town of Myrtle Beach, SC to throw one of the East Coast’s largest Mustang gatherings – Mustang Week.

Englishtown Open Track Day

In the Northeastern United States, few tracks are recognized like Englishtown’s Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. Though this track has built its name on being a premier drag racing destination over the years, they built a 1.3-mile tight road course a few years ago. Whether it’s learning driving techniques in their school, attending a drift event with Club Loose, or getting some open track time, this track is just right for the amateur, like me, looking for seat time.

2015 Formula Drift New Jersey

Entering Wall Stadium Speedway in Wall, NJ on the morning of Formula Drift, you’re greeted by a sensory overload of tire smoke, loud revving engines, and colorful vendor booths. With practice time incorporated into the pre-race schedule, fans can listen as they anticipate their entrance into the speedway. Inside the guardrails lining the 1/3-mile oval track have seen better days, making it the perfect setting for the chaos brought with the 4th round of the Formula Drift series.

A few things come to mind when you think of Subaru; rally racing, AWD, and the rumble of a Boxer engine. While most Subaru owners modify their cars for daily road use, the aftermarket support is astounding, causing a large number of enthusiasts to heavily modify their cars. There is one event every year in New England that fuels this passion within the Subaru community... Wicked Big Meet.

2015 Wekfest Long Beach

In the past there have been numerous traveling import car shows that have come and gone. Hot Import Nights brainwashed an entire generation, including myself, into modifying their car. They offered a space where modified cars could live and breathe, in the habitat made to show their alterations. With the HIN now defunct, a new show has climbed the ranks as the highly anticipated traveling car show — Wekfest. Their most recent stop at their home base in SoCal, specifically Long Beach.

2015 Bimmerfest West

In past years thousands of BMW enthusiasts flooded the grass lot H of the Rose Bowl. Bringing with them some of the highest quality Bavarian builds this country has to offer. However, a new venue this year had the 2015 Bimmerfest attendees hitting the pavement of Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA.

2015 Offset Kings Atlanta

There are different car show atmospheres that come with any region inside the United States. The western states have a deep-rooted aesthetic competition seen at car shows, where claiming an award is the priority. However, elsewhere stateside there is a greater sense of camaraderie and relaxation among show entrants. They may build their car with the goal of claiming an award, but they’re still at the show to engage with like-minded enthusiasts. Evidenced most recently at the Atlanta, Georgia stage of the Fatlace presented show Offset Kings.

Whoever came up with the nickname “Hotlanta” could not have been more accurate. Home to its own genre of rap music, humidity, and a legendary racetrack; the “dirty south” city of Atlanta, Georgia played host to the second round of the Formula Drift series under sweltering heat from the sun.

2015 Offset Kings Long Beach

The dividing line between performance and fashion is rarely skewed in the automotive culture. We gear heads, as a whole, tend to cling to one side or the other with aspirations of crossing over to dabble in our counterpart. That dividing line became physical in Long Beach, California where a barrier of fencing separated the temporary Long Beach Grand Prix track from the Fatlace presented car show ­– Offset Kings.
